He never loved you.
This one is easy to answer.
He just told you that he loved you, and he led you on. He probably mentioned your future together, and even marriage.
Did another parent ever tell you something about your child that you didn’t know?
When he approached you, he never thought about love, because he did not love you. He only thought about how he could take from you, until you were left a dried-out husk.
These types of NPD men are a dime a dozen.
You gave him everything. That is what he was after.
